Support page and file statistics comparable to Google Analytics - Wikimedia Analytics

Description

Because of "bounce" - readers of Wikimedia who leave a clicked page or other file within seconds - GLAMs and other users of Wikimedia have no idea of the real usage of their pages and other files such as images. Off-wiki we have Google Analytics and its efficient capabilities to measure page and file usage.

If there is no Wikimedia tool which at present renders this service, we need a similar tool on Wikimedia sites. As we probably should not integrate Google Analytics in Wikimedia software, it would be extremely useful to have an independent tool tailored to specific implementation needs etc. here.

  • a clear and complete list of exact steps to reproduce the situation, step by step, so that nobody needs to guess or interpret how you performed each step,
  • what happens after performing these steps to reproduce,
  • what you expected to happen instead,
  • a full link to a web address (if applicable) where this issue happens.

You can edit the task description by clicking Edit Task. Ideally, a good description should allow any other person to follow these steps (without having to interpret steps) and see the same results. Problems that others can reproduce can get fixed faster. Thanks again!
