Broken link in page but not in visual editor when using IPA template inside link text
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
There is a link on the following page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_English (first paragraph, see screenshots below) which is broken but appears normal in the visual editor.

Here is the relevant page source:

vowel (in words like ''talk'' and ''caught''); a [[/æ/ raising#New York City|split of the "short a" vowel {{IPA|/æ/}}]] into two separate sounds;

The link is also broken in the editing preview, after hitting "publish changes". Removing the {{IPA|/æ/}} from the link text fixes the issue in the preview. I was unable to replicate the issue in a user sandbox page because the link appears as a functional (but red) link which redirects to the wrong page (see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mattster3517/sandbox this may be an unrelated bug).

What happens?:
The link containing an IPA template in its text is broken when viewing the page but works when in the visual editor.

What should have happened instead?:
The link should appear correctly on the page and in the visual editor, or it should at least appear broken in the visual editor if it will also appear broken in the published page.

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
I checked this in google chrome and microsoft edge on a windows 11 laptop
