Simplifying Location Identification
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

IndicWiki Women Hackathon 2024
Project Overview: Our project aims to revolutionize the location identification process within Wikimedia Commons, addressing the cumbersome nature of current methods.
Challenge: The current process for identifying and referencing specific locations in Wikimedia Commons is laborious and lacks intuitiveness. Users struggle to accurately pinpoint locations, hindering the platform's potential for detailed image categorization and description.
Solution: We propose the integration of a clickable map directly within Wikimedia Commons. This map allows users to search for locations by coordinates, zoom in/out, mark specific points of interest, and effortlessly copy coordinates to the clipboard. Leveraging modern web technologies, we have developed an interactive map interface that seamlessly integrates with the Wikimedia Commons platform.
Key Features:

  1. Search by Coordinates: Users can input coordinates to quickly locate specific areas.
  2. Zoom Functionality: Seamless zoom in/out capability for detailed exploration.
  3. Clipboard Integration: Copy coordinates with a simple click for easy referencing.
  4. Point Marking: Users can mark points of interest directly on the map.
