Arelion IPv6 transit renumbering
Open, MediumPublic

Description

Dear Wikimedia Foundation Inc.,

Action Required

We kindly request your prompt attention to update your network configurations with the new IPv6 addresses provided below. This action is essential to ensure seamless connectivity and continued access to Arelion's services.

Background

The IPv6 addresses currently in use for below services were assigned by Arelion's former owner, Telia Company. As a result of the separation, we need to transition your services to use new addresses owned and managed by Arelion. To ensure minimal disruption to your operations, we have preconfigured the new IPv6 addresses in parallel with existing on our routers and replicated the settings of your current BGP sessions. The transition process has been carefully planned to maintain service continuity while aligning with our network policies.

Technical Details

All the new linknet IPs and BGP sessions are configured in parallel with existing on Arelion side. Change should be possible without interruption, at any time, by adding the new IPs and session(s) before removing existing config on customer side.

Please note that only the IPv6 addresses and BGP neighbor session will change. All other BGP related configuration will remain the same. E.g., if you have BGP configured with MD5 authentication today, the same key should be used for the new neighbor session. Arelion's will still be using AS 1299.

Deadline for Reconfiguration: 2024-10-31

To facilitate a smooth transition, we have established a deadline for the reconfiguration process. We urge you to complete the update before the end of October this year to avoid any interruptions in your IPv6 service.

Please be advised that following the deadline, the configuration for the old IPv6 addresses will be removed from our systems. Failure to update your network configurations with the new IPv6 linknet addresses before the deadline may result in service disruptions.
