I have found problems in replying to emails
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • I was trying to reply to an email but i got an error in the automatic reply from the mail server. I was trying to reply to an email of a discussion about user email confirmation.

What happens?:

The email was rejected by the mail server and it was written to contact the admins about that.

What should have happened instead?:

The email should not have been rejected. This is the content of the email :

Well, so Wikimedia is actually using a model for your users that's quite different than the model used by other portals online that usually requires email confirmation. Personally I think that it would be better to use a similar model instead of not pretending email confirmation.

If you say that your user model allows : unknown users, users with known but unconfirmed email and users with confirmed email maybe it's ok. But remember that generally confirming an email ownership is a good thing.

At least this is my opinion. What happens if someone uses a fake email for accessing Wikipedia? If the email is not confirmed there is also the possibility that someone does changes faking the email of someone, and this behavior is blocked only by email confirmation. So I think that email confirmation should be asked. It's just a click on a link in an email.

Kind regards

These instead are the logs of the mail server :
