Stopping Page Move Vandalism
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: rn71989

Description:
I noticed that pages can be moved on top of redirect
pages. I'll describe it here, using an example that a
former vandal used on Wikipedia. He started with the
Neopets article (let's call it article X). He moved
Neopets to a non-existent page (call it Y). X is now a
redirect page. So, he was able to move Penis (Z) onto X. Y
could be moved onto Z. This caused some problems when
administrators were trying to revert his vandalism. It was
as if those two articles traded places, while retaining
their original edit history. To avoid this, I ask if there
is any way to change the settings so that articles cannot
be moved on redirect pages

Being alowed to move a page onto a redirect page (pointing to the page that is
being moved) w/o a history is necessary to be able to revert a move.

Page moves should only be possible to redirects *pointing back at them* (e.g.
those created by page moves); this appears to be a dupe of bug 3292.
