For some of the multilingual wikimedia foundations projects there are more
"versions" for interwiki links.

Nevertheless at wikimedia foundations projects in languages others then English
the interwiki prefix w: is not an equivalent of wikipedia:

At the referenced url

wikipedia:user:gangleri generates link to Wikipedia in English
wikipedia:yi:user:gangleri generates link to Wikipedia in Yiddish
w:user:gangleri generates link to Wikipedia in Yiddish

This means that wikipedia: does not "preserve" the language but w: does.

I have not verified the behaviour for
wiktionary: versus wikt:
etc.
