Special:Whatlinkshere should not list wikilinks by transclusion (from templates)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: freeasd

Description:
Special:Whatlinkshere should not list wikilinks coming from template included in the
page. Please, allow the user to select if he want to list (or not) wikilinks coming
from template present in the page (this can be related to Bug 4624: let us select
what to list).

Special:Whatlinkshere now can't be used for all the pages present in popular
templates, like :it:Template:Film or :it:Template:Benvenuto (used in it.wiki
to give welcomes to thousand of new users). Pages like :it:Aiuto:Copyright have
tons of whatlinkshere just because it's included in a popular template: it's
impossible to use that list to find pages really linked in.

Otherwise, in according to Bug 2902: redirects first, really connected pages
second, wikilinks by inclusion third.
Thanks (and sorry for my English).

If it links here, it goes in Special:Whatlinkshere.

The hurry with which this case has been closed is very disappointing.

The idea of having an option for differentiating incoming links generated by
other pages and incoming links generated by included templates is IMHO worth a
little more of attention.

 1. If we didn't include such links, there would be links COMPLETELY UNTRACEABLE because they do not

appear in the template text.

 1. If we didn't include such links, there would be links COMPLETELY UNTRACEABLE because they appear in an

<onlyinclude> section.

 1. If we didn't include such links, page cache clears on creation/deletion would start failing.
 2. If we didn't include such links, it would be very confusing to see what actually linked to what.
