Standard 1.8.2 installation on SuSE Linux 10.1

Saving a page with umlauts on it (äöü) will save the page alright but return a blank page.
This has been reproduced on Opera 9.02 and Firefox 1.0.7. Opera reports a 0 Byte file
while Firefox renders the source as "<html><body></body></html>".
Preview works just fine.

Is it a configuration mistake or a bug?
