In our sync-up @Nuria mentioned plans to upgrade to CDH6 from CDH5 once v6 leaves beta but informed us there's currently no release date and since v6 has been in beta long past Cloudera's ETA, AE has considered switching to Hortonworks as the distribution.
Regardless of how it comes about, we analysts in #product-analytics are very much interested in a newer version of Hive so that we could have access to a bunch of UDFs which are currently not available. This ticket is to formally track the status of the upgrade :)

**Clarification**: there are two possible versions in the title because I don't know how much more difficult Hive 2.0 would be. It'd be ideal to have the latest and greatest but if 2.0 breaks things and we gotta stay sub-2.0, then 1.3 or newer would be super duper.
