Currently one of the tasks we list for volunteers, and a task regularly done via auto/semiauto editing, is to replace proxied links with direct links to a source. I think on balance it makes sense to do this for our proxied links as well, and to advise users of our proxy to not use proxied links in their citations. Also could invest in a bot to correct proxied URLs.
