I propose the creation of a magic word {{CURRENTCONTENTLANGUAGE}} returning the language of the current page. It would be particularly useful for the Translate extension (probably the only way to currently set the language of a specific page, in the translations) in order to better localise the translations. For instance a date could be localised in the translation using a syntax: {{#time:j F Y|2013-10-02|{{CURRENTCONTENTLANGUAGE}}}} This would give "2 October 2013" on the English original page and "2 octobre 2013" on the French translation, without the need of asking the translators to translate it.
