Previously, I could "@ppelberg" and then edit the ping to remove the @ symbol and put "Peter" as the link label. However, now all @ mentions are treated as a node(?), and they can't be edited without switching to the wikitext source mode. This is sometimes awkward, if you know that an editor would prefer being addressed by a different name (e.g., because the old username is kind of joke-y and you're talking about a serious subject).
