It's that time of the year. The Wikimedia Foundation annual plan for 2015-16 is under review and soon we will know the budget and people allocated to our team (according to the current plans, which seem to be designed to be reviewed more often as we go.
Instead of coming up with an Engineering Community 2015-16 master plan as we did in previous years, why not trying to have a roadmap, to be reviewed and fine tuned as we go? This roadmap would aim to allocate goals in the next four quarters, and would also offer placeholders for the following two years, offering a 3 year view plan according to the best of our knowledge.
We would still take a lot more care planning the next quarter than 2017, but having an horizon might be useful. Ideally we would keep an eye on this roadmap once a month, or whenever a great idea comes up.
Feedback very welcomed.
NOTE: Absolutely preliminary and experimental draft. Edits welcome.
