"random page" link is great, but it treats all pages the same. I think it would be a good improvement to the random page link and to the front portal to have a better random page function. The randomness can be skewed towards higher popularity (good for casual reader of the front page), towards smaller articles (for editors looking what to expand), towards articles with fewer edits (for editors looking for articles that get no love), etc.
