Having top articles from North America or specific countries, all in my preferred language.
Benefits:
greater relevance to users, more accurate to local users, and it would be fun to see what is searched for in different regions from my own. It could contribute to spending more time on the app/website.
Why should this be implemented?
It would make the top searched results better tailored to the user in their respective geographic region. Even if done by country, this is a massive improvement, since there are more populated countries that dominate search results. This doesn't paint the picture of what happens regionally, even in the case of the United States, a massive country.
It is necessary because if it did not happen, the top results would continue to be practically meaningless to me, thus making it an irrelevant feature. It would be my favorite feature if it were regionally informed, and it would offer a fantastic user experience with educational and entertainment benefits.
It would allow me to get a snapshot for what my fellow humans are curious about, both in my purview and abroad. It would paint an accurate picture of the interests of my fellow Americans, and I'm sure citizens of other countries would feel the same with their respective lists. The top search results for the day can also be a historical artifact, codifying events as they occur in a particular place.
I would like to be able to alter the settings to display Top Searched/Top Read articles of the day by location, whether it be by country or by city, but preferably the former. This would display the top results of the day when I open the Wikipedia app.
Use cases:
Users like me, who like to use Wikipedia to contextualize the news and the interests of people who live in my country. Users around the world who want information relevant to them. Users who use Wikipedia to capture a period in time by screenshotting the top read list for historical records.
