A user from the community came to ask about this task on IRC. @Trizek-WMF @Quiddity Can you please provide an update here? Thanks.

Hi @Sipun, I can't find a machine-translation tool for Odia, so will need a bit of extra assistance. Please could you tell us:

  1. The exact name of the local discussion & feedback page (for anyone who is unwilling to give feedback at mw:Talk:Flow), e.g. Wikipedia_talk:Flow or Discussion_Wikipédia:Flow
  2. The exact name of a "sandbox" page, where the community would like to test out Flow, e.g. Wikipedia:Flow/sandbox or Viquipèdia_Discussió:Flow/proves
  3. Is the community requesting just those 2 pages to begin with? Or, are they also requesting the opt-in beta feature that allows any editor to convert their own user talk page?
  4. Was anything else discussed in the local Village Pump that we need to know about?
  5. What word should be used for the "Topic:..." namespace?

Also, it looks like all the interface messages still need to be translated at https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=ext-flow&language=or&filter=!translated&action=translate - possibly you or someone else in the community could take on that task? (the many MediaWiki:Apihelp-... messages can be safely ignored)

Much thanks! (And thank you to Glaisher, too :)

Hi @Quiddity, thank you for your feedback. I am from the same community @Sipun is busy in studies. So I'll be helping with the queries or I may ask fellow users in our communities to do that. We'll get back to you with the answers.

Is there a rule in place for the percentage of translated messages required before this extension can be enabled for a) a sandbox, or b) user talk opt-in.

I note that it was enabled on Catalan Wikipedia in T120829, even for user talk opt-in, but only has 67% translated currently. It isnt easy to see what percentage of the untranslated messages are due to Apihelp, but even with those excluded the Catalan translation is far from complete (now).

There is no rule, but, based on experiences, we prefer to strongly suggest to have the translations done before the Beta feature is deployed. Then, users are not surprised to have message in English.

If you want a sandbox to proofread translations, that's feasible. @jayvdb, on which page (existing or not) can I enable it?

Thanks @Trizek-WMF , my interest was due to Indonesian Wikipedia currently considering having a single village pump subpage using Flow, and they are currently working on the UI translations now (and collaborating to find the best terminology to describe new Flow concepts).

@jayvdb, I've left a message on id.wikipedia to follow up. Let's discuss there, or on a separate task! :)

I'd filed T93162: Translation: Split Flow's en.json into wgMessagesDirs groups for ease of translating the most important bits with the hopes of making this a bit easier/clearer. Translation definitely doesn't need to be 100%. It looks like Catalan is missing a few actual interface messages, and many error-messages and Apihelp messages. However the bulk of the missing messages seem to be the fairly recently updated or created new Echo/Notification messages, so that explains why the completion% is a lot less than I remember.
general stats https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:MessageGroupStats&group=ext-flow
Catalan https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=ext-flow&language=ca&filter=!translated&action=translate

I've left a message to Odia community, because translations are still at 2% done and we don't know if we are supposed to deploy Flow or not in that case.

Trizek-WMF changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Aug 4 2016, 1:20 PM

Waiting for community input: the interface is still untranslated and we don't know if that's a problem for them.
There is also these questions T110846#2139462 pending.

I've left a message to the community.

Hi @Trizek-WMF and all,

The discussion says that the name flow should be in English. We/You can go ahead with the deployment. I am taking the responsibility to translate the messages eventually(Odia Interface is not an issue for the community).

Thanks @Jnanaranjan_sahu. We are moving forward.

@Jnanaranjan_sahu, @Sipun, what has been the community decision concerning the installation? It is not documented in the task, and I can't read Odia.

Options are:

  1. some trial pages
  2. some community pages, like a village pump or a help desk
  3. Beta activation on your user talk page
  4. Flow replaces all talk pages.

Option 1, 2 and 3 can be mixed; option 4 is covering all options.

Jnanaranjan_sahu claimed this task.

Well, @Sipun has asked there for testing. So I think deploying 1, 2 and 3 is fine.

Catrope removed Jnanaranjan_sahu as the assignee of this task.

Sorry I have accidentally marked the task as solved.

Sorry @Jnanaranjan_sahu, I didn't had time to work on the task yesterday.

Well, @Sipun has asked there for testing. So I think deploying 1, 2 and 3 is fine.

At that time, the only testing option was number 1. If we go for 1, I need to know on which pages you want Structured Discussions enabled.

If you want, you ask the community about the other options.

Thanks!

Trizek-WMF claimed this task.

Done for the two pages you asked (even if the first one is on the mainspace).

Please create a new task or ping me to create it if the community wants to try a new option!

I've moved Flow/Test to ଉଇକିପିଡ଼ିଆ:Flow/Test.

Thank you @Trizek-WMF . I have asked fellow Wikimedians to test and give feedback on it. I'll update you once any more information required in any action need to be taken.

Our Community wants the flow to be enabled. Please help

Hi @Jnanaranjan_sahu, please create a new task (see T110846#3607796) for your new request and follow https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requesting_wiki_configuration_changes (e.g. providing a link to community consensus in that task).
Thanks a lot for your understanding!

There is a specific process to get Structured discussions on a page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Structured_Discussions/Request_Structured_Discussions_on_a_page (but that's more or less the same).
