Let reviewer post a note to the editor page
Open, LowPublic

Description

As a CopyPatrol reviewer, I'd like to have an option to be able to notify the editor that their edit was a copyright violation and has been reverted. Original feature request here: T120435#2293881

Expected functionality:

  • I have a button to "Notify editor"
  • I can pick the text from given templates or write my own
  • The tool posts on the editor's Talk Page on behalf of the reviewer

Event Timeline

There's a link to the editor's talk page on the tool already... should we highlight it, when it's triaged as Page fixed? Maybe an arrow pointing at that link, saying "Leave them a message"... :)

The reason behind this request was that reviewers shouldn't need to leave the tool to post a message to the editor's talk page. I liked your idea about having a button to notify the user appear after the reviewer marks it as a True Positive. Maybe we could do something along those lines.

If people are going to leave a message on the editor's talk page, then I think they ought to go and do it on the page. If you add a message without visiting the page, then it's just another impersonal warning box to chase newbies off the site.

Why not just use Twinkle then? It already does most of that functionality for other workflows. Perhaps extending it to accomodate the CopyPatrol workflow would be a good idea.

Edit: After reverting or tagging the page on-wiki, there could be a button for "Warn user (COPYVIO)" or something that would leverage the existing user talk page functions to post the {{uw-copyvio}} or similar.

I like your idea about using template/gadget to post on user page. CopyPatrol does link to the user page for every record.
There hasn't been any more requests for this feature for a while. It might be helpful to talk to existing CopyPatrol reviewers (like Diannaa) to see what they are using for this purpose.
