Count edits in namespaces other than main
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Currently the Dashboard only counts the editions made in the main namespace, but some wikis (i.e. eswiki, euwiki) also have extra namespaces that are content but are not in the main namespace: Anexo:, Zerrenda:, Txikipedia:... the are courses where this namespaces are used, specially Txikipedia, but the system is not ocunting what this users are making. We have some courses open and it will be interesting to give professors and lecturers their statistics.

Event Timeline

What are the namespaces besides Main where you want to count edits/contributions?

Txikipedia and Zerrenda in euwiki. I think that Anexo in eswiki should also be in the list.

Right. So, I checked Google Translate and Zerrenda means "list"; Anexo means "annexed" (and Txikipedia is a blank). Can you say something about how those namespaces are used? What types of contributions do people make in them?

Zerrenda and Anexo are lists. Are a separated namespace as in this Wikipedias lists are not considered proper articles. But students could be doing lists and they can be a topic for an editathon.

Txikipedia is a children encyclopaedia inside Wikipedia. Is a separated namespace and lot of outreach is done there. You can visit txikipedia.eus to see it in action.

(@Theklan, I changed the title of this ticket because I've noticed Spanish speakers tend to use the word "editions" when they're looking for the English word "edits." My apologies if I misunderstood. )

@Theklan thanks! I think it's likely that we'll be improving cross-wiki support as well as additional namespace support for the Dashboard this summer, partly through a Google Summer of Code project.

@Ragesoss does it mean that it will be impossible to track the activity this course?

Could I have some news on this, please?

I'm hoping that @Amitjoki will be able to get to this during his GSoC project. He's got some other things that will need to be completed first, but he's making solid progress so far.

@Ragesoss I think I will be able to fix this within a week or two.

Hello! Is there any news on this?

Thanks

@Theklan thanks for the ping! Amit added tracking for some additional namespaces enabled now, although it doesn't count them for the main statistics. But we don't yet have support for the special es and eu namespaces you're asking for.

I just noted today that it also doesn't seem to count edits on Lexemes (namespace 146) on Wikidata.
