Represent Research in the Central Notice Community of Practice
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Context

Description
WMF wants to build a community of practice around Central Notice that improves clarity of roles and functions within the foundation for supporting community and foundation use of Central Notice.

Expected Deliverable
(private link) please check https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cBTJAAwOUXArY-ViDz6gza1JkD-6Wh6bJWUmDYwUIxU/edit

Estimated effort

  • 1-2 hour per month initially to identify roles, responsibilities and long term expectations -- and share each teams experience and connections with issues related to central notice
  • "after that, its going to shift to a community of practice -- mostly on slack keeping teams informed, and providing a point of contact when one of the teams is implicated."
  • The first cycle of work will finish by Q2, and we will likely ask teams to continue to have someone on call for consultation (i.e. if someone wants to use central notice for a survey again).

Impact
Better coordination and ownership of central notice problems (such as the survey issues happened recently)

Priority
This is high priority for the requester as each time there is a challenge a lot of internal WMF resources get consumed to address it.

Note: Kinneret and Miriam should be present in the meeting where we discuss the prioritization for this task.

Attended the first meeting of the community of practice group this Monday; we will meet once a month in the short term, with the next meeting dedicated to defining roles and responsibilities. Meeting notes available here (private link)

Next meeting (defining roles and responsibilities) now scheduled for 28 August. No new updates.

Met on Monday with Community of Practice to define roles and responsibilities; Research planned to be a point of contact for survey requests - we will need to clearly define what we can and cannot do. Notes here (private link).

Conducted the first Central Notice survey check at the request of CN admins since the formation of the Community of Practice. Overall not too much work (~1 hr), but I believe we can streamline this by providing documentation to help admins or consulting staff to make decisions and only need consultation when a survey goes outside of certain boundaries.

Closing this task. Community Growth will be working with CN admins for the rest of the FY, thus closing out the Community of Practice regular meetings.

Survey Support Desk will continue to provide survey support/review for CN admins under the scope of T345923 (usually at most 1-2 times a month, total of a few hours) for the time being.
