It seems like 4000 bytes (aka characters in our very case) should be a good limit beyond which we should always use POST as most browsers seem to accomodate well beyond that limit, with the exception of IE.

Authentication (WCQS only):
The current solution only allows access to users authenticated via OAuth. The implementation is based on nginx, some code deployed on WCQS and Mediawiki. It is limited to OAuth1, which is problematic for bot access.A better solution should:

In addition to this, I don't think all wikis agree that suppressing abusive usernames is the right solution. Suppression hides a part of the history and logs to everyone, sysops included, who cannot fully participate in the counter-vandalism efforts.
