action=watch should not use timed redirect
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

First impressions of action=watch:

You've got some javascript that flips the user back to the article
long before he is finished reading whatever it is that that message
is.

OK, I captured it with the mouse:

!The page "Xyz" has been added to your watchlist. Future changes to
!this page and its associated Talk page will be listed there, and the
!page will appear bolded in the list of recent changes to make it
!easier to pick out.
!
!If you want to remove the page from your watchlist later, click
!"Unwatch" in the sidebar.

Anyway, the impression is "senior citizens who cannot read fast enough
should find a different hobby." http://www.nngroup.com/reports/seniors/

Unwatch too.

True, great for power users, but terrible first impression.

Note: Bug 7129 conflicts with this bug, in that it calls for the *removal* of the intermediate step.

Not really a conflict. action=watch shouldn't use a timed redirect, whether it still has the intermediate step or not.

This would have been addressed with r23979.
