Better writing for User tools dropdown menu in Refreshed skin for signed in users + signed out users
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Signed out users

When you're not logged in, it returns the IP address in the username area of the Refreshed header - this isn't useful information (only to techies, most people aren't techy peeps though!) and it'd be much better if this was a i18n message saying one of the following things: "Guest", "Anonymous", or a call-to-action which would be "Sign up for an account"

I would argue that Guest is a simpler term compared to Anonymous, plus understood by more people! However it's incredibly small and not easily discoverable if you test it out, so maybe "Sign up for an account" could be used instead?

Signed in users

The first item in the user dropdown menu shows the username which links to their own user page. Looking at the name wouldn't indicate that at first sight though, so renaming it and replacing it with an i18n message with either "Your profile" or "My profile" (perhaps the latter?) would be better, and doing the same with all the other list items, (prefixing either my/your to whatever the thing is). Perhaps we should rename Preferences to Settings, since that's a simpler term? (It'd still link to Special:Preferences obviously).

E.G Github uses "Your profile" and "Your stars" in the user dropdown menu.

Perhaps re-ordering them too, not sure yet.

Not sure the best way to implement this. I noticed Wikimedia's log in links changed a while ago, was that due to a change in the software or a local change?

"Your" is generally better than "my" when it comes to such things as I understand it. Plain old "profile" without either one would work as well.

As of today the issue when logged out is resolved. It now reads Log In.
