bug 012477 add UTF-8 and RTL inter project links to test.wikipedia.org

(In reply to comment #1)

Interwiki prefixes are latin/ASCII.

Dear friends,

I opened this enhancement request as a request for « Product: Mediawiki » with
« Component: Internationalization » .

request: Please change the functionality of MediaWiki to support UTF-8 inter wiki projects.

There ar a lot of arguments using UTF-8 Interwiki prefixes :

a) users do not need to switch between different keybords
b) using RTL interwiki prefixes is more convenient to write source code in wiki
syntax because because users / editors would not be irritated about the
bidirectional rendering.

Thanks for all your efforts in advance!

Best regards Reinhardt [[user:Gangleri]]

I have no problems with limitations regarding the supported UTF-8 characters:

a) the characters « % » % , « & » & , « + » &#2B; ¿etc.? are
not allowed in user names; they should neither be allowed in wiki project codes;
b) the same restriction should apply to

some of the Unicode characters in the Unicode Genral Punctuation block
all / most sots of Unicode whitespace characters
the Unicode Character REPLACEMENT CHARACTER U+FFFD
other characters "making trouble"
