Linking to a specific section in Wikipedia makes the browser jump somewhere else
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

I created a link to the section [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screw#Screw_head_shapes Screw head shapes], but my browser scrolls past that section.

My browser is Safari Version 7.0.2 (9537.74.9). Wikipedia is running MediaWiki
version 1.32.0-wmf.1 (rMWf050876696c0).

I created a link from a disambiguation page, to a specific subsection of the article "Screw." When I clicked on my new link, my browser went to the correct subsection of the article, then a fraction of a second later, jumped farther down the page.

I copied the link into the address bar of another browser window, and observed the same incorrect behavior.

I disabled javascript in my browser, refreshed the page, and it displayed correctly.
