Divulge Bugzilla formatting language
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

The bug writing guidelines (URL above) don't mention how formatting works in bugzilla.
E.g., only by accident did I discover that
a space at the beginning of a line makes a box.
However
; a ":" doesn't do anything special there, as opposed to wikitext, etc.

Compare
http://core.trac.wordpress.org/wiki/WikiFormatting which tells us how to make our reports sharp looking.

However here on bugzilla.wikimedia.org it is just hit and miss. There is no list of formatting rules.

OK a space at the beginning of a line makes NOT a box.
It is all hit and miss. With not even a Sandbox in lieu of an instruction sheet. No Previews, just one cold "Commit" button.

Please provide a formatting description.

File it in Bugzilla's Bugzilla. AFAIK, our only modifications are to make [[wikilinks]] which probably don't need rigorous documentation.

To save people having to follow the yellow brick road through this bug chain:

Plus, as Mike notes, we convert wikilinks:

[[$1]] --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1

Interesting. They say if I use '>' then I can not wrap. Let's give it
a try

This is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped;

Now the same line with a ">"

This is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped; this is a very long line that I predict will be wrapped;

By the way, since I gave pointer to the bugzilla people to look here: there is some junk in their source,
$ GET http://www.bugzilla.org/docs/tip/en/html/hintsandtips.html|fgrep -c '
'
4
however invisible in most browsers.

Bonanza. I now know the Bugzilla equivalent to TRAC's {{{ }}}!
