Request for Floating/Public IP address for WikiLoop
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We would like to apply 2 public IP addresses for Project WikiLoop for canary and product servers.

Rationale: we can't bind our domain to the Cloud VPS with a WMF Cloud private IP addresses (172 range).

We are open to alternative approach if you could kindly advise. Thank you!

Hi team, am I doing it right? And are you expecting/waiting any additional input along with this request?

Adding for context:

Hi @JHedden

That was very helpful, we are now able to create a web service at http://wikiloop-battlefield-dev.wmflabs.org, pointing to http://172.16.0.129:8000 (instace name = wikiloop3)

Our next question is how do we allow using the domain names of "wikiloop.org", such as http://dev.battlefield.wikiloop.org.

The reason we would like to use wikiloop.org domain instead of wmflabs.org because we plan to brand and manage all our tools with our wikiloop.org domain. We currently have

In the longer vision we hope to include other tech industry companies to contribute to WikiLoop efforts,, so there will be more efforts and tools published under the same domain.
I tried to use a DNS record CNAME to point http://dev-wmf.battlefield.wikiloop.org to http://wikiloop-battlefield-dev.wmflabs.org, but it seems not working because it's a web proxy

Could you advice us how to do it?

Setting expectations: this will be discussed tomorrow in the WMCS team meeting.
That's the usual way we handle quota requests (and also new projects requrest).

Thank you, if you need some additional context or want to ask me questions,
I am happy to standby online or dial in if you see helpful. just let me know

This was approved in the WMCS team meeting. Before I create the quota, I'm wondering if you googlers could take a look at the issue some of our community members are having in T236446: Cloud Services shared IP (static NAT for external communications) often rate limited by YouTube for video downloads.
The problem is similar to the original issue that resulted in the creation of this CloudVPS project, but in the opposite direction :-P

let me know, thanks!
