Existing tool helps to download a book. What I'm proposing is to send ".mobi" format books into kindle directly.

We're using this in our community project called FreeTamilEbooks(https://freetamilebooks.com)

@Jskcse4: Hi! Do you plan to host this on Toolforge, or what are plans to make this available to Wikimedia readers? :)

I assume the idea is to have the backend email the books directly to the Kindle address?

I don't see why that's not possible, technically speaking, it's just an SMTP server. Probably the biggest issue with it is the care needed to protect personal information. Farming out to a third-party emailing service like "send2kindle" is unlikely to be permissible.

And the second issue might (or might not be) that homebrew mailservers might get blocked by spam filters and dealing with that is non-zero maintenance (though perhaps the WMF email user system can provide this?)

Aklapper changed the subtype of this task from "Task" to "Feature Request".

It sounds like Amazon are dropping mobi support for the email-to-device service: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346616 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32079175 (I can't find an official source).
