TimedText API (https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=timedtext&title=File:দুনিয়া_যখন_দোরগোড়ায়.webm&lang=en&trackformat=srt) is being called by MediaPlayer in desktop mode but not for same in mobile mode.

@SubodhKulkarni Do you have any example where captions are showing in mobile mode? (So that, it can categorize either it is feature request or bug)

The captions are showing here - https://w.wiki/3bb ; not in this also - https://w.wiki/GSk

Thanks!

Aklapper changed the task status from Open to Stalled.Nov 4 2020, 9:15 AM
Aklapper removed projects: MediaViewer, Commons.

MediaViewer is not used for videos. It is unclear what is used for videeos on a smartphone as that depends on browsers and operating systems on smartphones.
Please follow https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug and provide clear and sufficient information. Thanks a lot! :)

Demian subscribed.

These project names 😆 They don't make it easy to report a bug...
Same element ID used on desktop and mobile (emulator):

It seems to me both videos have a [CC] button in the bottom right to enable subtitles. The first video has it enabled by default, but the second has subtitles disabled. Can you check this?

It's also possible the video player did not load fully. In that case the video is played in place on the page, there is no popup:

Find the tiny button in the bottom right corner with 3 dots, which opens a menu and select "Captions" there to choose a subtitle.

It's not obvious how to enable subtitles, unfortunately. However, if you find this option on your mobile then this bug can be closed.

Hello, thanks for help. I tried all this. After selecting the language, the caption seems to be enabled, but subtitles are not visible on screen.

Thank you, @SubodhKulkarni. Following the above steps I can see subtitles. We need to reproduce the problem you're experiencing to be able to investigate it. For this we'll need more information. Can you provide some of the following (the more the better)?

  1. What is the resolution of your phone?
  2. What operating system and browser your phone has? What is the version of these?
  3. Which player do you see? The one with black background or the other one with white?
  4. Which language did you select? I assume English?
  5. A video recording of your actions - if possible - would be very helpful.
  6. Please open the second video (https://w.wiki/GSk), choose English, play the video to exactly the -5:00 time as seen in the screenshot below, pause it and take a screenshot if possible, with the subtitles menu open.

@SubodhKulkarni: Could you please answer the last comment? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately closing this Phabricator task as no further information has been provided.

@SubodhKulkarni: After you have provided the information asked for in Demian's last comment and if this still happens, please set the status of this task back to "Open" via the Add Action...Change Status dropdown. Thanks!
