Cite: Simple link to Google Scholar
Closed, DeclinedPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
In the Cite extension, add a link to each citation entry that simply looks up the rendered text in Google Scholar. For example, if a rendered citation is:

Barrett, Lisa Feldman, and Daniel J. Barrett. 2016. What do ghosts feel? APS Observer

then the <references/> tag would render an icon next to the citation (perhaps a little Google Scholar logo), linking to:

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Barrett%2C+Lisa+Feldman%2C+and+Daniel+J.+Barrett.+2016.+What+do+ghosts+feel%3F+APS+Observer

Make this feature optional, by setting (say) $wgCiteGoogleScholarIntegration to true.

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):

When wiki authors provide only a citation, but not a link to the cited paper, this feature would help the user locate the paper online in a single click.
