When I load a wikipedia page from one of the media files on it, it doesn't show audio files
Closed, DeclinedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

List of steps to reproduce (step by step, including full links if applicable):

  • For example, follow the link to this wikipedia image on the page for Gone Daddy Gone by the Violent Femmes/the way more popular and better Gnarls Barkley version: Gone Daddy Gone Cover Image
  • Click the x on the top right to close the image

What happens?:
You will see that the sample media file for Gone Daddy Gone does not appear as a playable stream. If you refresh the page, or just go to the page without using the image file as your point of reference, it will show.

This is a very obscure thing that i never noticed at all before. The media player bar "husk" will show up and be blank.

What should have happened instead?:
When clicking x to leave the image and view the page, it will not show a playable media file for the sample of Gone Daddy Gone but it should, shouldn't it?

Software version (if not a Wikimedia wiki), browser information, screenshots, other information, etc.:
Firefox 96.0
Kubuntu GNU/Linux 20.04 LTS 64-bit

Hi @Emandudeguyperson, thanks for taking the time to report this and welcome to Wikimedia Phabricator!
I can reproduce in Firefox 97 but only with the old video player:

After enabling the New Video Player on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures I cannot reproduce.
