Closed, DeclinedPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
When users from mainland China access the wikimedia, Domain name resolution returns the IP of codfw/esams/drmrs to access it

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):
This is the current situation of connecting from Wikimedia servers in mainland China:

Currently, requests from mainland China are forwarded to the uldfo server, but the IP address of the server has been blocked. These problems can be temporarily alleviated by switching requests from mainland China to alternate IP addresses.
Benefits (why should this be implemented?):
After the switchover is completed, requests from mainland China can be accessed through the place marked by IP below, until these IPs were banned by the Chinese authorities:

Hi, @I. Thank you for reporting and for your detailed descriptions.

The team's limited capacity prevents the maintenance work required to provide such a solution. Were this a permanent solution then we'd be happy to oblige; However, implementing these measures would only provide temporary relief before more restrictions follow.

This does not judge the value we have of Chinese access (we would love to serve them!) but reveals technical limitations that prevent us from keeping ahead of any country-wide censorship. We wish we could do more but we simply cannot.
