Translation of previous comment:
Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- I prepare an article on en:wikipedia.
- Using the visual editor, I start a citation that includes a text and an external link.
- When I click insert, the card appears stating: "This reference consists of an external link only. You can use the Convert button below to generate a correctly formatted reference." Note, that in the English version which is the one described here, what is indicated on the card, does not correspond to what actually happens, because it is not true that the reference is composed only of an external link.
4.1 Press convert
What happens?
The citation is reduced to the link to the web page, with the following data.
- the external link
- the name of the web page to which it links.
- the date of access
4.2. Alternative, do not click convert
What happens?
The citation is preserved as written, but if you try to edit the page again, the citation is presented again with the option to convert.
With the drawback that a new editor can hit convert, not realizing that this reduces the content of the quote.
What should have happened instead?
With step 4.1:
It would be desirable to display the quotation including besides the external link (with the information that appears) the text that was written.
With step 4.2:
that once the option to convert has been rejected, the option to convert should no longer be available.
Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
Another possible solution, that the option to convert only appears when the citation contains only an external link, without being accompanied by any text
The browser used is Firefox
I include a link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JLVwiki/Workshop where you can check what happens; there is a small difference with respect to the behavior in Spanish Wikipedia, and that is that in English it is not indicated that the reference is composed exclusively of an external link.
