Oxford Academic books aren't loading - Max challenge attempts exceeded
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

When attempting to access some Oxford Academic URLs (example), the page reloads a few times and then presents the following error:

© global-oup-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org
Max challenge attempts exceeded.
Refresh the page to try again.

We're using standard Oxford University Press EZProxy stanzas so it's most likely this is a problem on their end. We'll contact them to attempt to resolve the issue.

Samwalton9-WMF renamed this task from Oxford Acadmic books aren't loading - Max challenge attempts exceeded to Oxford Academic books aren't loading - Max challenge attempts exceeded.Oct 16 2023, 5:11 PM

The issue is not merely that the books aren't loading, but that access to them has been blocked outright. And it's certainly not limited to some books, but appears to be affecting the whole collection as even resources that were accessible before are no longer permitting access through TWL. Hope it doesn't take as long as it did last time to fix this issue

Yes, I'm getting error messages that "You do not currently have access to this chapter", even though it shows I'm signed in to Oxford Academic via the Wikipedia Library. :(

Hey Sam, I know you're on task on this, but since it's been a while since the issue was flagged, can we get an update from your end as to the progress achieved in the resolution of this issue and how long it is actually going to take to regain access to Oxford resources?

Unfortunately we've been having issues with OUP's responsiveness on this and related issues of late. We're trying as much as we can to make progress on this but unfortunately it's somewhat out of our hands at the moment.

My access to resources on Oxford Academic appears to be working again. Is the issue fixed for everyone else?

This used to work before. It still does not work. What it is that works for you now that makes you think that the problem is solved.

I'm currently looking through Oxford Academic via The Wikipedia library, & all of the books/resources that for the past few months have been inaccessible appear to be unlocked again.

I can now view the above-mentioned text (J.N. Williams) too. Maybe the problem has been resolved.

This old wikipedia library url forOxford Academic still does not work, but you have another one, perhaps a new one, that does work.

I did. It must have been a cache issue.

Samwalton9-WMF claimed this task.

Good news!

I have just had confirmation that all of the access is set up for 2024 for all of the IP addresses and ranges you requested. Please let me know if there are still any gaps.

Please feel free to re-open this task if any issues appear to persist.

Do we have access to the full Oxford Scholarship Online collection? If so, the issue might not be fully resolved yet, as for example this book in the OSO collection still shows “Get access” for me even though I am logged in. I even tried with different browsers to see if any caching issues were involved, but the result stayed the same.

This book is still unavailable, so I am reopening this issue.
