"Download as PDF": wrapped links span over whole lines
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Download a PDF version of any article, e.g.

https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Hands
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zajordanie
(ones I made screenshots of but it applies to every other article)

  • find an internal link that wraps into two lines

(e.g. link to Robert Maynard in https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Hands or link to Wadi el–Hesa in https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zajordanie)

What happens?:
entire content of given lines is highlighted, and it redirects me to the wrapped link no matter where I click .

What should have happened instead?:
wrapped links should behave the same way as other links do.

Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Event Timeline

Msz2001 renamed this task from "Download as PDF": some internal links are broken to "Download as PDF": wrapped links span over whole lines.Oct 18 2023, 4:01 PM

The highlighting is a PDF viewer option I'm pretty sure. Which application are you using to open the PDF with ?

I opened these files with two apps (Acrobat Reader, PDF X-Change Editor) – the problem seems to occure regardless of choice. PDF X-Change Editor does not highlight links indeed but links span over whole lines there too.

good news: for some reason this bug no longer occurs!

Yay. May have to do with upstream backend changes. Thanks for re-testing!
