Steps to replicate the issue:

• image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hietzinger_friedhof_hass_2023-07-18.jpg, rendering in normal res is ok
• rendering for the highest resolution fails: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ac/Hietzinger_friedhof_hass_2023-07-18.jpg/3888px-Hietzinger_friedhof_hass_2023-07-18.jpg (3.888 × 5.184 Pixel) not properly rotated and cropped.
• sometimes there was even an error ''Error: 503, Backend fetch failed'' and the file does not render at all
• &action=purge does not help.

What should have happened instead?:

• the rendering for all resolutions should work properly
• if there are some errors that let the rendering fail, retries on the server side should correct this in the background
• user triggered action=purge should help anyway
