Update Special:Search to use HTTPS
Closed, InvalidPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

What happens?:
You will see

The information you’re about to submit is not secure
Because this form is being submitted using a connection that’s not secure, your information will be visible to others.

That is because the form is trying to connect to

http://www.google.com/search?q=test&sitesearch=en.wikipedia.org&profile=advanced&fulltext=1&ns0=1&wprov=acrw1_-1

It should use https, not http.

Event Timeline

@Jidanni How did you find the "Google" option? I don't see any Google option at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search. Also, which browser are you using?

Izno subscribed.

You have installed a user script that you should report your request to. That is not something supported by Special:Search without that.

You are right.

Indeed in
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets
I find I have checked

Add a selector to the Wikipedia search page allowing the use of external search engines

But that is it. I am at a dead end a this point for who to submit this
problem to.

Since you were able to find what was adding it, I've now fixed it. In the future you should ask at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:VPT first if you need assistance with something, where someone should be able to help sort out what's wrong and whether it needs a task in Phabricator accordingly.
