Previous Technical Writing Experience:
Over the years, I have written close to 200 articles for different cloud-based companies, here are a few samples:

In addition to writing blog posts, I have performed a complete revamp of the RunCloud documentation and knowledge-base which makes me a perfect candidate for working on this project.

Project Proposal:
The objective of this project is to streamline MediaWiki documentation by consolidating scattered information currently residing on Meta-Wiki into MediaWiki.org as the current duplication of documentation across these platforms complicates user accessibility and maintenance efforts. I plan to enhance usability and ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content by centralizing and organizing the documentation.

I plan to follow the timeline proposed on the 2024 Season of Docs proposal page, which involves a systematic review and consolidation process across distinct phases:

  1. Project Kickoff and Onboarding (2 weeks): In this initial phase, I plan to focus on setting up accounts, familiarizing myself with relevant tools and resources, reviewing the project plan, and establishing communication channels and frequency for ongoing collaboration.
  1. De-duplication - Phase 1 (4 weeks): The primary objective of this phase is to identify MediaWiki.org equivalents for Meta pages, supplement missing information on MediaWiki.org, and determine content specific to Wikimedia projects that should remain on Meta. I plan to audit each Meta page, write and incorporate necessary content into MediaWiki.org, and seek feedback before publication.
  1. New Content - Phase 2 (9 weeks): In this phase, I plan to focus on reviewing and categorizing Meta pages into subject areas, identifying content gaps on MediaWiki.org, integrating relevant information into existing documentation, and preserving Wikimedia-specific content on Meta.
  1. Organize - Phase 3 (5 weeks): In this phase, we will review Wikimedia-specific content on Meta, design an information architecture for organizing this content, gather feedback, and implement changes to enhance usability and accessibility.
  1. Project Wrap-Up (3 weeks): In the final phase, I plan to perform cleanup tasks, identify any follow-up work required, and document the project outcomes, learning, best practices, and recommendations for future projects.

The project page mentions that participants are expected to follow certain guidelines, I have read and understood the project proposal and plan to adhere to following guidelines:

  • Timely responses to queries within three days to ensure project continuity.
  • Active engagement in reviewing and providing feedback on proposed documentation changes.
  • Regular communication to address any challenges or updates throughout the project duration.

Proposed Budget:
The project proposal page has stated the budget of $12,000 for compensation for the technical writer, I am happy with this compensation and expect to receive a fraction of this stipend upon completion of each phase.

Hi @tatticoder, Thanks for your interest in Season of Docs! I appreciate that you've linked to a few writing samples in your proposal. I'm going to move your proposal into the Reviewed column. We'll let you know on May 10 if we've selected your proposal.

Hi @apaskulin , thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to working together in the future! :)

Hi @tatticoder, Unfortunately, we haven’t selected your proposal for this year’s Season of Docs. We had so many great applications; it was a tough decision. We hope you’ll consider applying next year. If you’re interested in contributing to Wikimedia documentation as a volunteer, check out Documentation/Contribute. If you’d like more specific feedback on your proposal, feel free to send me an email at apaskulin@wikimedia.org. Thanks again for your interest!
