Wikidata French Interface Should Display 'alémanique (gsw)' Instead of 'suisse allemand' for iso
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

User story:
As a Wikidata user,
I want the French interface to correctly display "alémanique (gsw)" as the language label for iso instead of "suisse allemand,"
so that the information is accurate and consistent with other language interfaces.

Problem:
The current French interface on Wikidata incorrectly displays the label for the iso language as "suisse allemand."

Comparison of Current (Top) and Desired (Bottom) States in Screenshots:

Wikidata_languages-gsw_in_French_UI-wrong_(suisse_allemand).png (795×1 px, 344 KB)

Current state: Incorrect display of iso:gsw as 'suisse allemand' in Wikidata French UI

Wikidata_languages-gsw_in_French_UI-correct_(alémanique)_01.png (795×1 px, 343 KB)

Corrected state: iso displayed as 'alémanique' in Wikidata French UI (interface manually edited)

Acceptance Criteria:

  • When viewing the French interface on Wikidata, the label for the iso language should be "alémanique (gsw)."
  • The label "suisse allemand" should no longer appear for iso in the French interface.

Previous discussion:
See discussion on Display label in French UI for iso:gsw language is incorrect.

Change #1049993 had a related patch set uploaded (by Raimond Spekking; author: Raimond Spekking):

[mediawiki/extensions/cldr@master] Fix French translation for 'gsw'

Added a patch for LocalNamesFr.php, because a upstream fix takes ages.

I would be happy if a native French speaker could create an upstream ticket: https://cldr.unicode.org/index/requesting-additionsupdates-to-cldr-languagepopulation-data

Thank you!
@VIGNERON Is the upstream ticket something you can help with?
