Unable to add image to Warper: "We're sorry, but something went wrong."
Open, In Progress, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

What happens?:

  • Fails with a log error: "We're sorry, but something went wrong."

More specifically, I have found that any maps added to Wikimedia Commons should be given about a day for Commons to work on the images before Attempting addition to the Wikimaps Warper. Uploading a map to Commons and immediately attempting to add it to Warper leads to such errors. Perhaps it can check for this precondition of Commons running imagemagick etc. and avoiding this situation should be considered.

What should have happened instead?:
Assuming my reasoning is right - If the map is being attempted to be added too soon, the Wikimaps system should detect perhaps the timestamp and just say Wait for 24 hours before attempting to add.

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Thanks for the report, and the note on my user page.

You identified the issue - is that new images don't get their thumbnails immediately. There is a delay which should be dealt with.

I've cross-filed it here:

https://github.com/wikimaps-dev/mapwarper/issues/125

It might not be an immediate fix though but thank you for bringing it to my attention
