Reported by @Numbermaniac at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol/Reviewers#Bug%3A_Review_messages_with_a_vertical_bar_in_them_get_cut_off_when_sent_to_the_user
Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Be a patroller
- Find an unpatrolled article
- Page Curation toolbar -> open "mark as reviewed" flyout
- type a message with a vertical bar such as Test1 |language= Test2
- send the message
What happens?:
- User talk message is missing everything after Test1
What should have happened instead?:
- User talk message contains complete message
Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
- probably need to escape template characters such as pipe | and equals =, or not put the user talk message inside a {{Bq}} template, or switch to a template that has {{X top}} and {{X bottom}}, or add |1= to the template
- Diff of article talk page, which works fine: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:2025_Haldwani_Municipal_Corporation_election&diff=prev&oldid=1266604475
- Diff of user talk page, which has the bug because of the {{Bq}} template: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:FlyJet777&diff=prev&oldid=1266604476
