Description:
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but i didn't find a better one, hope
it is okay.

I have feature request for MediaWiki: I have built a Wiki containing lots of
articles, text and sample codes I found on the web. What I would like to do is to set
up an automatically created index or keyword list, like it can be also found at the
end of books.

I want to put a simple tag to the end of the article, similar to Categories
[[Category:XX]]

Result should be to get a page showing me an index, let's say for letter M, like:

  • Microsoft Excel
    • Article 1
    • Article 2
    • Article 3
  • Microsoft Outlook
    • Article 1
    • Article 2
  • Microsoft Word
    • Article 1

and so on...

Yes, I know, I can do something like this with categories. But what I don't like with
categories:

  1. I have to create a new page for every keyword I use
  2. I don't want to have a seperate page for every keyword, I want to have a list of

all keywords starting with "M", and there showing directly the page links

Can something like this be done with existing extensions or tags? I didn't find
anything...

Not convinced that this would be useful to have in core. I suppose it could be
some sort of extension or custom modification, but it seems a bit specialist to
me, as described.

I'm going to go ahead and close this out. It would be very possible to do as an extension, but would not be something we'd do in core.
