Rob Church kindly committed some patches to texvc, but it hasn't been recompiled

Wikimedia wikis updated?

Recompiled. If something still doesn't work, please provide some test cases.

There's a problem: the named colours don't work with the syntax

<math>\color{Purple}x^2+1</math>

as I'd intended - you need to say

<math>\color[named]{Purple}x^2+1</math>

which is annoying. I believe the attached one-line patch will fix this. Please
could you apply it and recompile? Sorry for the mess.

Can you provide a page of test cases which don't work? That page seems to
render fine as it.

Hm, that would be a good idea. I've updated the same page to show the working
versions and non-working versions.

If I apply the patch (with whitespace adjusted, it doesn't apply as-is), all math
renders fail.

How galling. I've tested this one on my local installation, so please give it a
try.

This one works. Applied, recompiled.
