The following HTML translation is incorrect:

<math>a_{N_a-1}</math> -> <i>a</i><sub><i>N</i></sub><i>a</i>

The generated HTML looks like being generated from

<math>a_Na-1</math>

If nested subscripts are not possible in HTML, please use TeX for displaying
this kind of formula.
