User login page shows inappropriate email blurb
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Description:
On my wiki I have turned off creating accounts. The Special:Userlogin page then
no longer includes the 'Retype Passwords', 'Email' etc. fields. It still
includes the blurb from MediaWiki:Emailforlost though, which makes no sense.

Here's a tiny patch to fix that.

Reviewed and applied to CVS. Will be in 1.5.8.

I also have turned off creating accounts, and find it very usefull for users who
forgot their password to have the possibility to have it sent to their email !
Could it possible at least to choose wether to have this blurb or not ? Thank
you :) --dieudo

The bug has been fixed in CVS HEAD and should be fixed in MediaWiki 1.5.8.

Dieudonné: As you can see on wikipedia.org, I think the new version will have
something that more closely resembles what we both want.

I don't understand how it can make no sens for you to have this blurb ?

On the other hand, I'm still a bit worried about seeing my email adress
vulnerable here !
Aren't you for yours ? (spams, etc...)

Better patch: only remove the message

The previous patch also removes the 'Mail me a new password' button; this one
doesn't.

Note how the emailforlost message is not about emailing lost passwords; perhaps
it should be renamed.

Issue seems to have been fixed some time ago.
