Possible duplicate of 2012: display redirect comment
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: wikt.3.connelm

Description:
I'd like to be able to make this entry at
http://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=put_my_finger_on_it&action=edit like
this:

#redirect [[put one's finger on|common idiom form]]

Which would have the "|common idiom form" part display as the redirect comment
on the "redirected from" line.

''Subnote (possibly a separate request itself):'' Naturally, people will be
tempted to standardize those messages with templates. If templates need to be
prohibited, an error message saying they are, would be helpful.

It might be useful to see exactly where you were redirected from in cases where
you are clicking links that are redirects or you think you made a typo (the I
suppose you could look at the URL)

Perhaps it would be better to have the text to the right of the "|" show in
parenthesis at the end of the redirect comment, ie "Redirected from X (Y)".

That's for the clarification. The Redirection itself is already in parenthesis
though. And it already does identify the page it came from. I am suggesting
the comment ''in addition'' to the page it was redirected from. Sorry if I
implied otherwise by poor wording.

Excellent idea for the syntax. Should have thought of that . . .
