Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: phoenixphansubs

Description:
So far access to the edit pages can be restricted to logged-in users.
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;

Is such a feature also possible for the history pages? Something like:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['history'] = false;

Version: unspecified
Severity: enhancement

There would be about five million other ways to get at the data, making it a huge security
hole if anyone relied on it. WONTFIX.

And there is no way to restrict access to all these ways? Is this so hard to
implement? I believe there are much more people how like to have the option to
use MediaWiki with a little bit more access restrictions. :/

Those people do not include the Wikimedia Foundation. Ergo, not much effort is
going to be put into it by the developers. We put out MediaWiki for people to
use should they feel like it, but the primary purpose is and has always been to
run Wikipedia and its sister sites, and so a rewrite of the permissions system
isn't going to happen for the sake of third parties. Anyone can view pretty
much anything: that's a wiki. Otherwise it's just a bad
collaboration-management tool.

I've heard Twiki has better access control, although I've never looked at it
myself. Regardless, if this is what you want, look elsewhere. These features
aren't being put in for the foreseeable future, if ever.
