**Steps to replicate the issue** (include links if applicable):
* https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Global_digital_divide&oldid=1174561050
* Visual edit
* Click to place the mouse cursor at the end of "address the digital divide:[38]"
* The cursor jumps to the beginning of the paragraph instead of there (separate bug, but feel free to fix this here too)
* Click to place the mouse cursor at the end of "address the digital divide:[38]"
* Hold down shift, then click to place the mouse cursor at the end of "hinders the well-being of their population."
* Text correctly selects
* Press "delete" key
**What happens?**:
* Text unselects
* Cursor moves from end of former selection to beginning of former selection
* Text is not deleted
**What should have happened instead?**:
* Text is deleted
**Software version** (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):
**Other information** (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
* Windows 10, Chrome 116.0.5845.141 (64-bit)
* The diff looks like a numbered list, but is actually indented using colons, and the numbers are manually typed.
