==Summary of project==
Create a way for users to access a list of currently trending articles by creating a suite of features for iOS built off of the Trending API.
==Why are we doing this?==
The current Top read feature on the Explore feed works well for showing users which articles were in the top read over the past 24 hours, however we would like to provide a way for users to view a more timely and dynamic list of trending articles by utilizing the new Trending API.
==Feature success criteria==
Increased usage of the Explore feed
Higher click-throughs on Trending articles of historic Top read articles from the feed or widgets.
==User stories==
**Explore feed card**
I browse the Explore feed of the Wikipedia app to learn new things, find reading recommendations or pass the time. While I’m browsing I’d like a way to see what’s currently trending on Wikipedia: top read articles and articles that have recently been updated. I’d like for this list to be timely (updated throughout the day) and to have supporting information (Wikidata description, spark line or metrics) to better help me determine if I would like to read or reread a specific trending article.
**Trending list popover **
When I’m feeling curious about current events or other popular trends, I would like a way to explore trending articles. Although a card on the Explore feed can show me the highest ranked trending articles, I’d like a way to see a longer list with the potential addition of more detailed metrics (number of readers, spark lines, as well as size and frequency of updates to the article), which can help me to determine if I should read or re-read an article.
**Widget**
I use the current Top read widget in the morning to gain some insight into what’s been popular recently on Wikipedia, however I would like to have a place on my Today screen where I can see a more dynamic list of trending articles.
==Design requirements==
Each list item should include:
- Article title
- Wikidata description or summary
- Ranking number
- Metrics
-Number of readers
-Time of last update
**Optional elements:**
- Thumbnail
- Spark line
==Design constraints==
**Explore feed card**
Card needs to fit into the pre-existing Explore feed styles (eg. Header (card title and subtitle, card type thumbnail), card action or link (link to Trending list popover), etc).
**Widget**
Must adhere to the design constraints of iOS widgets (eg. no 3D touch, background styling, etc)
==Questions==
- Along with the addition of Trending articles to the Explore feed, should trending be leveraged elsewhere on the app? Eg. in its own tab or attached to Search?
==Future goals / ideas==
- Ability to browse through trending lists of non EN Wikipedia
- Trending across Wikis
- Badge on the article view of trending articles
- Notifications
