Scenario:

I'm editing an article in VE. While doing so, I see a reference in the list of all references at the bottom of the page that I want to edit. E.g. some spelling mistake or similar, where I don't care about the text the reference belongs to, but just want to edit the reference itself.

It's surprisingly hard to edit the reference. You can't edit it from the <references> block, you can't use the backlinks in this block, you can't search for "[1]".

Currently the best way seems to open the page again in reading mode, use the backlink there to find the section where the reference is used, find it in VE and then edit it. There should be a better way to edit a reference.
